Leaves of Absence

In accordance with the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the California Family Rights Act (CFRA), the North Orange County Community College District provides eligible employees the opportunity to take unpaid, job-protected leave for certain family and medical reasons.

A leave of absence request is based on an employee's serious health condition or the serious health condition of an employee's spouse, child, parent or member of the immediate household and must be accompanied by a verifying medical certification from a licensed physician. All leave of absence requests will be verified and processed through the Office of Human Resources.

Employees requesting a leave of absence (continuous or intermittent) are required to provide at least 30-day advance notice when the need is foreseeable and such notice is practical. If the need for leave is not foreseeable (e.g., an emergency medical situation), employees must notify Human Resources as soon as practicable and should comply with the District’s normal call-in procedures for an absence or tardiness.
