State & Federal Legislative Priorities
The Office of Public and Governmental Affairs, with assistance from our legislative consultants at Nossaman LLC, advocates on behalf of NOCCCD to ensure that our students have access to affordable education and are successful in attaining their educational goals.
Each year, the North Orange County Community College District crafts state and federal legislative priorities in order to direct advocacy efforts for the District and campuses. Identified legislative priorities address critical needs in the areas of workforce, college readiness, transfer and articulation, financial aid, student success and basic needs, inclusion of noncredit students in appropriate initiatives, as well as general considerations that affect higher education appropriations. The goal is to maximize opportunities for student success, and position NOCCCD to better serve the existing and future workforce needs of the community it serves.
Each priority has been carefully chosen to focus on results that will support the District's student population, staff, faculty, and long-term sustainability. These priorities allow staff and the District's advocates in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. to act expeditiously on key state and federal issues that impact the District and the students we serve; however, this is not an all-inclusive list of the issues the District will engage in and advocate on. NOCCCD retains the right to advocate on behalf of or in opposition to other areas of legislation or specific bills as they arise through the legislative session.
Note: Any official position taken on proposed legislation or initiatives must first be reviewed then approved by Chancellor’s Staff before submission or publication. For questions, please contact Kai Stearns, District Director, Public and Governmental Affairs.
