NOCCCD Releases Institutional Commitment to Diversity Report

By Jennifer Bradbury

The 2024 NOCCCD Institutional Commitment to Diversity Report was presented at the Board of Trustees meeting on December 17, 2024.

The Diversity Report is an annual evaluation of the District’s commitment toward diverse and equitable employment practices. It looks at trends over time in hiring and the make-up of the District’s staff in comparison with the student body and surrounding community.

In 2023 racial and ethnic employee diversity at NOCCCD was 55.7%, an 18% increase since 2014. NOCCCD’s employee diversity is also approximately 10% higher than that of other surrounding community college districts. During the 2023-24 academic year 68% of District applicants were diverse, and 81% of those hired were diverse. In addition to racial and ethnic diversity, the report includes information based on gender, disability status, and veteran status.

The report was presented by Dr. Flavio Medina-Martin, District Director, Diversity, Culture, & Inclusion; Yasmine Andrawis, District Director, EEO & Compliance; and Dr. Gabrielle Stanco, District Director, Research, Planning & Data Management.

The presentation included video interviews with faculty and staff who have participated in diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism and accessibility (DEIAA) efforts, who spoke about the first-hand positive impacts they’ve seen from the District’s diversity efforts. The full 2024 Diversity Report is available for review. A livestream recording of the December 17 Board Meeting can also be viewed.
