Historic Appointment of First NOCE Student Trustee
At the December 17, 2024 Board of Trustees meeting, history was made when the first Student Trustee representative to North Orang Continuing Education was sworn in and officially seated. In 50+ years of NOCE’s existence, the campus has never had a student trustee elected.
The role of student trustees is to represent the voices of their fellow students, cast advisory votes, and advocate for the interests of students by gathering and sharing input from their student body. They are also considered guardians of public trust.
Taking on this historic role is Robert Johnson, an active leader among his fellow NOCE students in his roles as President of the school’s Technology Club and devoted Career Technical Education (CTE) student. After his swearing in, Robert addressed the meeting attendees, thanking his supporters and expressing his commitment to serve NOCE faithfully as their first student trustee.
Robert has leapt enthusiastically into his new duties, joining his fellow NOCCCD Student Trustees at the 2024 Community College League of California (CCLC) Annual Convention.
NOCE posted about Robert Johnson’s appointment on their website stating, “Congratulations to Robert Johnson on his new role as NOCE Student Trustee! We are excited to work alongside him as he helps shape the future of NOCE with his leadership and commitment to student advocacy.”
