Fullerton College Formally Recognized for Voter Registration Efforts
Every two years ahead of the general election, the California Secretary of State Students Vote Project hosts the Ballot Bowl—a friendly competition where higher education campuses compete to register the most students to vote and showcase civic engagement efforts.
In 2024, Fullerton College was given an award for getting the highest percentage of its student body registered to vote among California Community Colleges.
Highlights from the Ballot Bowl appeared in an OC Register article on January 16, 2025, nothing that Fullerton College held several events throughout the competition including two candidate forums for the Fullerton School District Board of Trustees and the North Orange County Community College Board of Trustees. Additionally, Fullerton College also held a Constitution Day/National to Vote Day, and a Meet the Candidates forum which included discussions on the 10 California ballot measures.
“Many people don’t know that Fullerton College is extremely diverse,” said Dr. Cynthia Olivo, President. “As such, it is vitally important that our students are informed on the local and state issues and are able to make their voices heard. Our efforts centered on helping student, who were eligible to vote for the first time, get registered and set up to vote.”
The winner of the Ballot Bowl is determined by overall scores in three different categories: number of students registered to vote, percentage of student body registered to vote, and CVEAP score (Civic and Voter Empowerment Action Plan). Fullerton College will have the opportunity to outdo themselves in 2026 when the next Ballot Bowl will be held.
