On June 28, 2019, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), under the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, acted to reaffirm Cypress College's and Fullerton College's accreditations for the remainder of the current cycle, which lasts until 2024. Upon receiving the good news, Cypress College President Joanna Schilling shared, "This reflects a well-integrated, campus-wide effort, and I am deeply grateful for the leadership demonstrated by our faculty and staff to ensure we can continue serving our community as a premier college. Our priority is to continue as a welcoming environment for all students who seek to leaern, thrive, and grow through the power of education." Dr. Schilling specifically cited the efforts of: faculty member Liana Koeppel, who chairs the college's accreditation steering committee; the Academic Senate; and Phil Dykstra, who serves as the college's accreditation liaison officer.
Fullerton College President Greg Schulz commented, "I'm grateful for the leadership of our accreditation co-chairs, Vice President of Instruction Dr. José Ramón Núñez and Professor Danielle Fouquette, and grateful to the campus community for coming together to prepare the follow-up report in March, which outlined the college's progress and continued improvement in the areas of distance education and Institutional Student Learning Outcomes."
ACCJC accreditation certifies NOCCCD institutions as effective for student learning, assuring the integrity of college programs and transcripts, and facilitating the transfer of credits to English-speaking colleges and universities worldwide. In October 2017, Cypress College and Fullerton College completed a regular evaluation by ACCJC when a team of evaluators visited the campuses to assess each college's performance based on accreditation standards. Following the visit, the Commission acted to reaffirm Cypress College's and Fullerton College's accreditations for 18 months and required each college to conduct a follow-up report by March 1, 2019. ACCJC reaffirmed each college's accreditation status for the remainder of the cycle based on the follow-up reports. The next step in the ongoing accreditation process is to complete midterm reports, due in October of 2021. The next comprehensive accreditation report reviews and site visits will be in Fall of 2024.
