EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR – Certificates of Commendation were presented to the 2018 Employees of the Year. Those recognized included: Wayne Chang, Regina Rhymes, and Cindy Shrout from Cypress College; Lisa Campbell, Olivia Perez, and Dr. Miguel Powers from Fullerton College; and Lori Dodson, Tina McClurkin, Jennifer Perry, and Erin Sherard from NOCE…SABATICAL REPORT – Retired Cypress College Instructor Clifford Lester presented his sabbatical report titled "The Voice of the Holocaust Survivor." Presentation highlights included his family history and the art of photography as a means to capture Holocaust survivor stories that impact college students, the District, and the community…DUAL ENROLLMENT – Dr. Marshall shared an article from Education Dive on dual enrollment and Cypress College and Fullerton College dual enrollment information with the Board…COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENT SUCCESS FUNDING FOMULA OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE – The Chancellor shared that she was nominated by her CEO colleagues to serve on the Community College Student Success Funding Formula Oversight Committee.

Cypress College – Dr. JoAnna Schilling, President
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH EVENTS – Dr. Schilling announced that the college is celebrating Latinx students and community members through events, including "Fiesta" and guest speaker Alex Bernal… PLEDGE WELCOME CENTER – The President shared that the college hosted elected officials, generous donors, Board member Jackie Rodarte, Chancellor Cheryl Marshall, Foundation board members, AUHSD officials, and community members to the grand opening of the Pledge Welcome Center on September 19, 2018… TRANSFER-LEVEL PLACEMENT RATES – Dr. Schilling presented Cypress College transfer-level placement rates for English and math from Fall 2013-17.
Fullerton College – Dr. Greg Schulz, President
WELDING PROGRAM FUNDING – Dr. Schulz invited the Board to attend an event with Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva on October 4, 2018 in celebration of the Welding Program securing a $1 million special allocation in the 2018-19 State budget… MANUFACTURING DAY – The President announced that the college will welcome more than 100 local high school students, counselors, and faculty to the campus on October 5, 2018 in celebration of Manufacturing Day… LATINX HERITAGE MONTH EVENTS – Dr. Schulz shared that the college is celebrating National Latinx Heritage Month with events and workshops, listed online at news.fullcoll.edu, that honor the contributions of the Latinx community.
North Orange Continuing Education – Valentina Purtell, Provost
COLLEGE TRANSITION EVENT – Ms. Purtell shared that the Adult College and Career Transitions Program is collaborating with Cypress College to host "College Knowledge" featuring the Cypress College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Program at the Anaheim Campus on October 11, 2018… LATINX HERITAGE MONTH EVENTS – The Provost announced that NOCE Professional Development and the District's Office of Diversity and Compliance are collaborating on a series of Latinx Heritage Month events, including guest speaker Jose Zamora and two movie nights… VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE – Ms. Purtell reported that NOCE is partnering with Orange County Communities Organized for Responsible Development to host voter registration opportunities at all three Centers in preparation for the November midterm elections.

DMA UPDATES – District Management Association President Richard Fee praised retired Cypress College Instructor Clifford Lester on his presentation and shared that the DMA Executive Board decided to structure activities for the year around the theme "Unleashing the Power of Hope" with the intent of addressing it from a student success perspective, student equity perspective, and workplace campus culture perspective.
STUDENT SURVEY – NOCE Academic Senate President Tina McClurkin reported that 500 participants responded online to the ongoing trimester transition to semester student survey.
CC ACADEMIC SENATE UPDATES – Cypress College Academic Senate President Craig Goralski thanked the Chancellor for being open to discussions about winter intersession and shared that the Senate is reviewing proposed changes to the executive vice president position and proposed rubric for the faculty prioritization process.
FC ACADEMIC SENATE UPDATES – Fullerton College Academic Senate President Josh Ashenmiller announced that faculty have been elected to the Guided Pathways Steering Committee and that the Senate is encouraging faculty to assign zero cost online textbooks.
UF UPDATES – United Faculty President Dana Clahane praised retired Cypress College Instructor Clifford Lester on his presentation, congratulated 2018 Employees of the Year, and commented on the first Representative Council meeting, special election and timeline, and ongoing District negotiations.
CAMPUS EVENTS – Adjunct Faculty United President Kent Stevenson reflected on the ADFAC Open House and District Tim Wise event.

CAMPUS UPDATES – Fullerton College Student Trustee Pascual Castillo reflected on the Leadership in Training event at California State University, Fullerton and announced the results from the Associated Students elections.
COMMUNITY EVENTS – Board Member Stephen Blount commented on community events including a Fullerton College football game, Fullerton College President's Open Forum, Breakfast Club event hosted by the Office of Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, and regional military affairs committee meeting.
CAMPUS EVENTS – Board Member Molly McClanahan praised retired Cypress College Instructor Clifford Lester on his presentation and reflected on the ADFAC Open House and District Tim Wise event.
COMMUNITY EVENT – Board Member Jeffrey Brown reflected on a seminar hosted by AALRR Law Firm about civil rights in the 21st Century as they relate to education.
COMMUNITY EVENTS – Board Member Barbara Dunsheath commented on the ADFAC Open House, District Tim Wise event, AALRR seminar, National Voter Registration Day, Cypress College Foundation and Legacy Society, and CCLC Advisory Committee on Education Services.
DISTRICT & BOARD POLICIES – The Board conducted a study session to review and discuss the District policy development process and any Board Policies that warrant revision.
Finance & Facilities
2019-20 BUDGET CALENDAR – The Board reviewed the calendar for the 2019-20 budget.
TRAVEL – The Board authorized the request to pre-approve out-of-country travel for Jeremy Siskind to Shanghai, China from October 5-12, 2018.
CC PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM – The Board received as information the highlights relating to the Cypress College 2018-2019 Professional Development Program.
FC STAFF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM – The Board received as information the highlights relating to the Fullerton College 2018-2019 Staff Development Program.
INTERACT COMMUNICATIONS, INC. – The Board authorized the request to approve the addendum with Interact Communications, Inc. for consultant services and development/implementation of a marketing plan for AEP/NOCRC in the amount of $219,500.
PROMOTION – The Board approved the promotion of Sonia Duran to Fullerton College EOPS Coordinator, effective September 26, 2018.
2018-19 BOARD OF TRUSTEES GOALS – The Board discussed the proposed 2018-19 Board of Trustees Goals.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS – The Board discussed any potential future agenda items.
