The Pluralism, Inclusion, and Equity (P.I.E.) series offers workshops and trainings designed to increase our intercultural proficiency so we may provide effective teaching and support services for our diverse student body.
This participatory presentation will introduce attendees to the somatic (physical and psychological) impacts of the compounded trauma of existing within systems of racial oppression and White Supremacy, and how these internal responses perpetuate the ground for individuals to replicate these systems of racialized harm in daily interactions. The session will also offer an introduction to culturally-rooted somatic practices, from global majority traditional medicine systems, that allow for neuroplasticity of the neuro-pathways of these engrained trauma responses, to create a foundation for sustainable long-term transformation so that the approach to racial equity is not just intellectualized but also embodied.

nisha ahuja supports hundreds of people as a Registered Naturotherapy Practitioner with a mental health and trauma specialized practice of Ayurvedic Medicine, Culturally-rooted Somatics + Holistic Yoga, Energy + Sound Healing, and Embodied Racial Equity + Racial Healing as Co-Founder and Co-Director of Soma Integrative Wellness. After a 20-year career as a physical theatre artist, playwright, director, and choreographer, nisha also continues to work as a voice over artist, and in film + television as a media consultant and Intimacy Coordinator bridging the craft of storytelling while supporting healthier nervous systems and mental health in media.
