April 16, 9:00 - 11:00 AM
DISCUSSION LEAD BY: PROFESSOR AGUSTIN FUENTES, ANTHROPOLOGY PROFESSOR AT PRINCETON
As a part of the P.I.E. Series, a very dangerous idea has been threatening American society for many years- it is based on biological determinism. This centers in the notion that some groups of people are inherently superior to others and more deserving of fundamental rights based on their genotype/biological make up. This belief cemented and continues to support an excuse for some of this country's most shameful history. It continues today in many aspects of our society and institutions, under the disguise of "science."
"The documentary A DANGEROUS IDEA reveals how biologically determined politics has disenfranchised women and people of color, provided a rationale for state sanctioned crimes committed against America's most vulnerable citizens, and now gains new traction under the Trump administration." http://adangerousideafilm.com/
