2021 Fullerton College graduate Omar Garcia is a recipient of the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke (JKC) Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Garcia was surprised with the news on May 7, 2021 while in class via Zoom. More than 1,300 students applied for the national JKC Scholarship, and Garcia is one of 72 students being awarded with up to $40,000 a year to complete a bachelor's degree at a four-year college or university.
At 24 years old, Garcia, the eldest of five siblings, is the first in his family to graduate from college. On May 22, 2021, Garcia will don his cap and gown at Fullerton College's Drive-thru Commencement Ceremony. He is graduating with five associate's degrees and a 4.0 GPA.
Garcia is proud of his success, but his academic journey did not come easily. As Garcia puts it, he had to "buckle down to prove to everyone that he could do it." Read more about Garcia's road to the top at the Fullerton College News Center.
