About the SEM Project
When Measure J was approved in 2014, providing modern facilities to support the sciences was a top priority for voters. The decision facilitates the construction of a state-of-the-art facility that will not be constrained by the existing SEM Building's footprint and unalterable interior concrete walls. The current building does not meet existing student demand. The new building will incorporate both an immersive digital classroom and design features that allow for future expansion. Designing and building fully modern labs is another key benefit of starting from the ground up. The brand new SEM Building will be open for classes in 2021.

About the VRC Project
Cypress College is committed to serving veterans. More than 600 student veterans attend the college, and that number will continue to rise as the Global War on Terrorism continues. Because Cypress College lives in a military community, it is a campus responsibility to ensure that no veteran is left behind after his or her service concludes. Cypress College vows to serve veterans by providing the facilities, resources, programs, and social services necessary to succeed.
The state-of-the-art Veterans Resource Center (VRC) will support the transition, integration, and personal development of the individual student veterans as they move throughout the higher education system. The new VRC, equipped with furnished private counseling rooms, social space and patio, computers and other technology, will be designed to meet the unique needs of student veterans while they attend Cypress College. Services offered in the VRC will include assistance with the admissions application and financial aid, veterans benefits information, academic and personal advising, success and retention services, career development and advising services, and a sense of community.
The VRC will stand as the centerpiece of the Veterans Education Resource Complex, which also consists of the Tribute Garden, Veterans Memorial Bridge, and Outdoor Event Plaza. These components illustrate a timeline and symbolize the life experiences of student veterans in the past, present, and future. The bridge over the existing campus pond will link the VRC and Tribute Garden, and delineates the present as a spiritual place for reflection and healing. The Tribute Garden, featuring lighted flags of each branch of the United States Armed Services, honors past veterans' history and sacrifices. The future is supported by the VRC and its adjacent Outdoor Event Plaza, providing a place for students to achieve success through education to become leaders in their communities.
