STRATEGIC CONVERSATION #19 – Dr. Marshall shared her reflections from Strategic Conversation #19 and thanked Cypress College for hosting the event on April 10, 2018… STRONG WORKFORCE STAR AWARDS – The Chancellor congratulated Cypress College and Fullerton College on receiving Strong Workforce Star Awards from the California Community Colleges system for career technical education programs successfully increasing students’ earning power and social mobility… ADVOCACY – Dr. Marshall reported that the District hosted California Community Colleges Vice Chancellor of Finance and Facilities Christian Osmeña for a tour of each institution and that she will be joining NOCE Provost Valentina Purtell and District Director, Public and Governmental Affairs, Kai Stearns Moore for legislative visits in Sacramento on April 11, 2018.

CAMPUS ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS – Dr. Schilling announced that Cypress College was honored with 20 Strong Workforce Star Awards from the California Community Colleges system for career and technical education programs successfully increasing students’ earning power and social mobility and was voted “Favorite Community College of 2018” in the Long Beach Press-Telegram Reader’s Choice Awards… “MY CYPRESS STORY" INSTALLATIONS – The President reported that a “My Cypress Story” mural and pole banners have been installed on campus to share student, staff, and faculty stories.
Fullerton College – Dr. Greg Schulz, President
STRONG WORKFORCE STAR AWARDS – Dr. Schulz shared that Fullerton College received 18 Strong Workforce Star Awards from the California Community Colleges system for career and technical education programs successfully increasing students’ earning power and social mobility… FULLERTON COLLEGE NIGHT AT ANGEL STADIUM – The President reported that 1,250 members of the Hornet family enjoyed the 3rd Annual Fullerton College Night at Angel Stadium and raised more than $11,000 to support the campus food bank and Students of Distinction scholarships… WOMEN'S SOFTBALL – Dr. Schulz announced that the women’s softball team lost to Cypress College on April 4, 2018, but has won four games in a row since the defeat… CONGRATULATIONS – The President recognized Fullerton College student Robert Brantley for being honored with the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship in the amount of $40,000 per year to complete his bachelor’s degree.
North Orange Continuing Education – Valentina Purtell, Provost
ADVOCACY – Ms. Purtell shared a noncredit handout prepared for distribution during the April 11, 2018 legislative visits in Sacramento, CA… CONGRATULATIONS – The Provost announced that Dr. Vaniethia Hubbard, NOCE Dean of Instruction and Student Services at the Wilshire Center, accepted the position of Vice President of Student Services at Santa Ana College starting July 1, 2018 and Terry Cox assumed the permanent position as NOCE Director of Administrative Services on April 4, 2018.

DMA LUNCH & LEARN – District Management Association President Eldon Young invited the Board to the DMA Lunch and Learn/Spring Business Meeting on April 20, 2018 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in rooms 105/107 at the Anaheim Campus.
ONLINE WORKGROUP – NOCE Academic Senate President Tina McClurkin commented that the faculty online workgroup is creating a course in Canvas to share information and communicate across NOCE Center locations.
STRATEGIC CONVERSATION #19 – Cypress College Academic Senate President Bryan Seiling shared his reflections and thanked the Board and students for participating in Strategic Conversation #19 on April 10, 2018.
STATE-WIDE ACADEMIC SENATE MEETING – Fullerton College Academic Senate President Josh Ashenmiller shared that he will be traveling to San Mateo, CA for the State-wide Academic Senate Meeting on April 12, 2018.
UF UPDATES – United Faculty President Dana Clahane reported on UF elections, Community College Association’s Spring Conference and Advocacy Day, performance-based funding and online college resolutions, and the 2nd Annual Math Research Experiences in Community Colleges Conference at California State University Northridge on March 17, 2018.

CAMPUS ACTIVITIES – Cypress College Student Trustee Daniel Sebastian commented on campus activities including: Strategic Conversation #19; Women’s Recognition Day; World Fest; scholarships; and Associated Students elections. Fullerton College Student Trustee Andrew Washington reported on campus activities including: Associated Students elections; Kindercaminata; “I Love Fullerton” BBQ; and Strategic Conversation #19.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – Board Member Stephen Blount commented on a conference he attended in St. Louis, MO in early April 2018.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES – Board Member Molly McClanahan reported on the School of Music at California State University, Fullerton’s partnership with Fullerton College and a student panel on artificial intelligence at the Nixon Library on April 9, 2018.
STRATEGIC CONVERSATION #19 – Board Member Ryan Bent and Board Member Jacqueline Rodarte shared their reflections and thanked Cypress College for hosting Strategic Conversation #19 on April 10, 2018.
“CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION” – Board Member Barbara Dunsheath shared the current trends in higher education from the “Chronicle of Higher Education” and concluded with the editor’s note.
CURRICULUM – The Board approved the summary of curriculum changes for Cypress College, to be effective Fall 2018.
EDUCATION FUTURES PROJECT – The Board authorized the request to accept new revenue from the Education Futures Project, Teacher Preparation Pipeline Leadership Seed Grant in the amount of $5,000.
PROMOTION – The Board approved the promotion of Terry Cox to NOCE Director, Administrative Services, effective April 2, 2018.
