At last night's Board of Trustees meeting, Chancellor's Staff bestowed its most prestigious prize—the Above and Beyond Award—to Cypress College Dean of Career Technical Education Kathleen Reiland.
Established in 2015, this award is only given out when an employee executes an act of extraordinary achievement in service to the District. This year, the members of Chancellor's Staff voted unanimously to bestow the Above and Beyond Award to Kathleen.
In addition to managing Cypress College's CTE Division, Kathleen has been a key player on two large-scaled projects this year. First, on behalf of all Orange County community colleges, Kathleen is the lead administrator on the Regional K12 Crosswalk Project directed by the Orange County Department of Education. This project is a bridge between the ROP programs at local high schools and the community college programs aligned to each. The result of more than two years of hard work, the Crosswalk project will be a comprehensive tool for high school students, administrators, and colleges linking TOPS and SAM coded programs from one educational segment to the next.
On behalf of NOCCCD, Kathleen also initiated and provided oversight for the Future Built CTE marketing campaign. This was an incredibly intricate and labor-intensive project which included new websites for over 150 programs, outdoor and social media ads, and print collateral. The successful campaign provided innovative, collaborative, and impactful marketing which resulted in an increase in FTES for all the institutions' CTE programs.
At Cypress College, she has taken the lead on the Program Mapper pilot, serves on the statewide Educational Intersegmental workgroup; oversees multiple grants as well as SWP funding; and has shown a willingness to share information, ideas, and successes with her colleagues at all campuses. She is a leader who puts her students, Cypress College, and the District first, and we are all better for it.
Thank you, Kathleen, for going Above and Beyond!
